Worsening conditions in Africa’s drylands are threatening vibrant centers of livestock trade. In the Horn of Africa, many communities face extreme weather, such as extended droughts and flooding. Global development programs are helping such communities in the region transition from relying on emergency aid to thriving despite the harsh environment.

Programs in the Horn of Africa use evidence-based learning and adaptive management to guide their design and implementation. With various donor organizations and governments working together, sharing resources is critical to addressing ongoing challenges.

This learning hub includes resources from program implementers as well as academic, research, and government institutions. The resources below detail proven best practices for global development programming in the Horn of Africa.

This learning hub was facilitated by the Resilience Learning Activity (RLA), funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development in Kenya and East Africa. RLA was a five-year Activity under the Feed the Future Kenya Livestock Market Systems Leader with Associates (LWA), led by ACDI/VOCA. For the Partnership for Resilience and Economic Growth (PREG), RLA was the secretariat and leading learning partner.
