Smallholder farmers have limited capital to invest in their farms. It is not always clear to which activities they should commit their efforts and resources. Cultivate assesses all practices and inputs throughout the production season to provide farmers with clear options and profitability estimates. Cultivate systematically identifies the inputs and production practices that will result in the highest return for farmers.

Cultivate empowers farmers and farmer groups to understand the impact of each decision they make during the production cycle regarding costs, labor, yields, and revenues. With a set of Cultivate comparison tables, farmers can better calculate the effects on family labor and gross margin. Farmers identify which practices to develop through the use of two core components:

  1. AgCalendar: a streamlined calendar built around the production season to inform farmers of the decisions they need to make, the timing of those decisions, and the timeframe in which to apply new practices.
  2. AgCompare: a comparison tool against which farmers can analyze changes in individual or multiple production practices for all related costs against a return in yield, sales, and profit.
