Dr. McCarthy is a retired agriculture development officer of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and a returned Peace Corps volunteer, who worked throughout Africa for over 35 years. Following his Peace Corps service teaching high school science in Botswana, he established a U.S. Peace Corps recruiting office within the Texas Tech University’s College of Agriculture, where he earned a master’s degree. He completed his doctoral degree in livestock nutrition at Texas A&M University. After his retirement from USAID, Dr. McCarthy established a goat value chain under the USAID-funded Food and Enterprise Development project, implemented by DAI Global in Liberia. He has completed volunteer assignments through the Farmer-to-Farmer Program in Guatemala, Egypt, and Ghana.
