Chief of Party of Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria Project
James Mbwika is the chief of party of the Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria Project. He manages the project’s technical activities in the areas of value chain development, capacity building of farmer cooperatives, and negotiations between producers and processors. He also manages staff and represents ACDI/VOCA in Nigeria. Before joining ACDI/VOCA in 2019, James worked as the acting country programme officer at the International Fund for Agricultural Development’s office in Nairobi, Kenya (2016-2019). He consulted for several organizations, including The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, and more. James also worked as a regional coordinator for COMESA’s Vegetable Oils and Protein Improvement Network project (1994-1997) and as an economist for Kenya’s Ministry of Planning and National Development (1987-1992). He holds a BA in economics from the University of Nairobi and an MS in agriculture economics from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver (Canada). He is fluent in English and Kiswahili and holds a certificate in cooperative management.
