CEDAR is facilitated with community stakeholders through five stages:
- Selection: communities are selected based on vulnerability, exposure, and sensitivity to the impacts of climate change. We collaborate with existing program and government activities to select appropriate communities.
- Engagement: we conduct several meetings with community leaders and members to conduct assessments and to reach a common understanding of the current climate-based risks facing the communities.
- Planning: participatory workshops are conducted throughout the community to explore the benefits and costs of various adaptations, conducting additional analysis when necessary.
- Implementation: a core element of implementation is forming linkages with government stakeholders and other enterprises. Implementation is often a combination of learning, infrastructure, and adaptation priorities.
- Network: across the communities, leaders are identified to establish an ongoing network to analyze climate trends, share adaptation plans, and to coordinate advocacy efforts for additional resources.
We rigorously monitor project activities and adaptively manage them to achieve success for our clients. We customize every project to meet the unique demands and emerging challenges of each situation. For CEDAR, we create a comprehensive evaluation that builds on the following measures:
Output: number of community adaptations identified
Outcome (immediate): number of community adaptations implemented
Outcome (distant): number of community climate goals achieved
