In southern Sudan, ACDI/VOCA works to increase commercial agriculture opportunities.
Under a subcontract from Abt Associates, and alongside Action Africa Help International, Sheladia Associates and RSM Consulting, ACDI/VOCA implements the Food, Agribusiness and Rural Markets (FARM) program, a five-year activity funded by USAID.
Focused on the three equatorial states of southern Sudan, the FARM program will:
- Sustainably increase agricultural productivity and food production
- Increase trade
- Improve the capacity of producers, private sector and public sector actors to develop commercial agriculture
Increases in value chain competiveness and agricultural trade will result in higher rural incomes, improved food security and better economic opportunities for the poor. ACDI/VOCA works toward this goal through producer training, cooperative formation and private sector collaboration.
Training Increases Producer Skills
At the production level, ACDI/VOCA uses proven training techniques, such as:
- Leading farmer field schools
- Creating demonstration plots
- Providing technical direction to private and public extension services
Associations and Cooperatives Build Business Capacity
Using our Farming as a Business curriculum, ACDI/VOCA strengthens the capacity of associations and cooperatives to develop business plans and improve financial management skills.
Private Sector Connections Increase Opportunities
ACDI/VOCA works with traders, agribusinesses and other private sector actors to add value to production and improve access to markets.
