Nicaragua – Community Development Program
Improving Local Eocnomic and Social Conditions
ACDI/VOCA has won a $1.5 million, two-year program, funded by USAID, to improve local economic and social conditions in Nicaragua by supporting ongoing community projects through a small-grants program.
Despite recent progress, Nicaragua still confronts tremendous challenges as the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere (after Haiti). Nicaragua has a national population of 5.9 million, of which almost half lives below the poverty line.
ACDI/VOCA’s team will actively engage local Nicaraguan civil society organizations, local governmental units and private sector stakeholders to mobilize communities, enhance inclusion and participation, and address the most pressing needs using the grants program. The project aims to ensure strong citizen support, broad and sustainable impact in communities, and an enduring positive impression of U.S. government assistance.
