New Project Won: Bangladesh—Farmer-to-Farmer Program for Strengthening Household Access to Resources
ACDI/VOCA has won a $130,000, one-year subaward for a USAID Farmer-to-Farmer Program for Strengthening Household Access to Resources. The prime contractor is Winrock International. The program's goal is to generate rapid, sustained and broad-based economic growth in the agricultural sector of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has made solid economic and social progress in the past decade, according to the World Bank. However, the country still has 56 million people living below the poverty line and faces considerable development challenges.
The Bangladesh program objectives are to
- increase agricultural sector productivity and profitability
- strengthen agricultural sector institutions
- improve U.S. and local country public outreach through an innovative use of media and information and communication technologies
Through multiple strategies, ACDI/VOCA will increase the capacity of poor Bangladeshi households to grow, sell, store and purchase food throughout the year. These efforts support USAID's Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative priorities to increase market-led growth, reduce undernutrition and increase productivity of women farmers.
