ACDI/VOCA Volunteers Make a Difference. Now So Can You!

Volunteer service is a powerful part of ACDI/VOCA’s development work, matching U.S. volunteer experts to project needs around the world. ACDI/VOCA volunteers stretch donor dollars and allow more people in developing countries to benefit from technical expertise aimed at improving business and bettering lives.

Now you can directly support these volunteer efforts through the newly established VOCA Foundation Fund.

Visit the Support Our Volunteers web page (www.acdivoca.org/donate) to find a quick and easy way to contribute to volunteer global development work. A $50 donation helps pay, on average, for one day of a volunteer’s meals while he or she is on assignment; $100 covers a day of a volunteer’s lodging. A $500 donation helps pay for a volunteer’s training resources for beneficiaries, and $1,500 covers international travel costs.

Monies donated to the VOCA Foundation Fund—100 percent—help send additional volunteers on ACDI/VOCA field assignments and, through training and other capacity-building efforts, support beneficiaries.

How does the volunteer program work? Often our overseasprojects that use volunteers have a list of valuable prospective assignments but an insufficient budget to cover volunteer travel and other expenses. Because of your generous gifts to the VOCA Foundation Fund, field staff now can request additional volunteer support as well as any on-the-ground training resources that may be needed.

For example, the VOCA Foundation Fund recently helped send volunteer Ed Doherty to East Timor to complete the second phase of his planned training in land tenure conflict resolution, even though project budget cuts had eliminated his return visit. As in this case, the private donations helped leverage those of the original donor ensuring that both your donations and donor dollars make a difference in as many lives as possible.
