ACDI/VOCA E-Learning Course Garners Laurels
International NGO Community Recognizes Innovative Online Learning Tool
Are time and distance conflicts making it difficult to train staff?
As ACDI/VOCA has learned, e-learning tools make those barriers easy to overcome. That’s welcome news for global organizations like ours with a staff of more than 1,000 employees spread across 41 different countries.
Global Giveback Contest Honors Standout E-Learning Course
A Learning In NGOs (LINGOs) member, ACDI/VOCA recently was recognized for its innovative use of e-learning tools, being named a finalist in the 2011 Global Giveback competition. The competition, created by the eLearning Guild and LINGOs, recognizes innovative uses of online courses by nonprofits to advance their work.
The Global Giveback competition singled out ACDI/VOCA and its partner QuickLessons, an online learning content platform provider, in the corporate developer category for their course, “How to Design a Team-Building Workshop.”
The course is available to any NGO interested in learning how to help teams organize to be more efficient and add to their commitment, motivation and good communication throughout a project’s lifecycle.
“New working teams form to lead projects every day,” says John Leary, ACDI/VOCA director of training. “Their success depends greatly on the ability of team members to collaborate and work together effectively. The challenge is greater when teams consist of different cultures and diverse backgrounds. Every new manager and new hire will benefit from this team-building design course.”
Global Effort Creates Online Tool
The “How to Design a Team Building Workshop” course was truly a global effort. Enabled by QuickLessons' online collaboration platform, the project team included designers and developers based in Brazil, a team leader in Florida, and a team-building expert in Washington, D.C.
“I was able to quickly familiarize myself with the QuickLessons interface and immediately contribute to the design process,” says Leary. “We visited the self-help tutorials in the beginning, but once we saw how to navigate the index, inserting and modifying scenes and exercises were self-explanatory.”
Commitment to High-Caliber Trainings for Beneficiaries, Staff
ACDI/VOCA has long been recognized for using high-caliber, on-the-ground trainings and extension services for the benefit of its international development projects’ beneficiaries. In addition, ACDI/VOCA’s core corporate values commit to team work and staff development.
“We are thrilled to have such a useful tutorial readily available for our broad range of new project leaders and department managers,” says Maura Bookter, ACDI/VOCA’s director of staff development. “This is an interactive, visually appealing learning resource that simplifies the team-building process.”
ACDI/VOCA’s online learning management system, ASPIRE, garnered international attention last year by its e-learning course, Cost Principles for Nonprofit Organizations - OMB Circular A-122, being named a finalist in the 2010 Global Giveback Competition.
