Suliman Vaigna Kamara

Deputy Chief of Party, Livelihood Improvement for Farming Enterprises project in Liberia


Suliman Vainga Kamara is an experienced agribusiness expert who throughout his career has worked in Ghana, Benin, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, the former USSR and the United States. Mr. Kamara currently serves in Liberia as the deputy chief of party for the Livelihood Improvement for Farming Enterprises (LIFE) project. He heads the program division, provides administrative oversight, and oversees the start-up, implementation and close out for all aspects of the USDA Food for Progress program. Prior to joining ACDI/VOCA, Mr. Kamara worked as the farm cooperative and marketing coordinator for the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project, an agriculture program sponsored by Tufts University School of Nutrition Science and Policy in Boston, Massachusetts. Previous to that, Mr. Kamara worked for the Liberia Ministry of Agriculture in various capacities, including as assistant minister of research and extension. He also served as a lecturer at the University of Liberia’s College of Agriculture and Forestry, teaching crop production and agricultural education. During the civil war in Liberia, Mr. Kamara briefly worked for Plan International USA–Liberia as program manager, before the mission in Liberia closed. He also worked for Catholic Relief Services in Liberia as the PL 480 Title II food commodity accountability manager. Trained in sustainable agricultural development and marketing, Mr. Kamara has developed several technical training manuals on maize production, vegetable production and post-harvest handling. He holds an M.S. in agronomy with an emphasis in tropical crop production and a B.S. in agriculture. He is fluent in Russian.
