Gitau Mbure
Agribusiness Team Leader, Malawi
Gitau Mbure is an agricultural economist and project manager with over 10 years of professional experience in international development. He has extensive technical experience in the areas of rural livelihoods, food security and agribusiness development. Mr. Mbure currently serves as agribusiness team leader for ACDI/VOCA’s USAID-funded Wellness and Agriculture for Life Advancement (WALA) program in Malawi. In this capacity, he provides technical and managerial oversight for the agribusiness team in linking smallholder farmers to markets. Prior to this position, Mr. Mbure served as the deputy chief of party for ACDI/VOCA’s USAID-funded food security project in Rwanda, overseeing the program’s finance, monetization, and monitoring and evaluation activities. Before that, Mr. Mbure worked in South Sudan as the agricultural marketing advisor for ACDI/VOCA’s USAID-funded Agricultural Market and Enterprise Development (AMED) project. For AMED, he directed interventions to increase agricultural productivity and incomes for smallholder farmers. Mr. Mbure earned his M.S. in agricultural economics from the University of Delaware and his B.S. in agriculture and natural resource management from Africa University, in Mutare, Zimbabwe. He speaks fluent English, Swahili, and Kikuyu (Kenya) and proficient Shona (Zimbabwe).
