Anna Afferri
Health and Nutrition Director, Haiti
Anna Afferri is a technical expert in international health and nutrition with over 13 years of experience in Europe, Asia and Africa. She has significant experience in child nutrition, adult and child primary health care, family planning, and maternal health, including emergency obstetric care. She currently serves as the health and nutrition director for ACDI/VOCA’s Multi-Year Assistance Program in Haiti. The program’s interventions link the most vulnerable communities in Haiti’s Southeast Department to health and nutrition services and provide training on health and hygiene practices, especially for mothers and children. Before joining ACDI/VOCA, she was the medical and regional coordinator for a medical-nutritional emergency program in the Ituri District of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Previous to that, Ms. Afferri served as the head of mission and country representative for a project supporting refugees in Gabon funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. She has also served as an expert in maternal and infant health for programs in Tibet, Algeria and Angola. She earned a master’s degree in public health with a focus on disease control at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Belgium and a master’s in NOHA (Network On Humanitarian Assistance funded by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Department) at the University of Rome in Italy. Ms. Afferri earned a degree in obstetrics at the University of Trieste in Italy. She has taken additional courses in tropical medicine at the University of Brescia, Italy, and in clinical obstetrics at the University of Dublin, Ireland. She is a native Italian speaker and is fluent in French. She is proficient in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
