Bolivia – Onion Quality Improvement and Marketing Project

Strengthening the Value Chain Sector in Bolivia

Beginning in 2001, ACDI/VOCA worked as a strategic partner of the Fundación para el Desarrollo de Tecnología Agropecuaria – Valles (FDTA – Valles) and the USAID-funded Market Access and Poverty Alleviation (MAPA) project through a series of onion value chain activities. The projects financed by FDTA and implemented by ACDI/VOCA lasted for 18 months. The final goal of the activities was to increase the sale value of the onion by 25 percent. The project benefited 600 onion producers in the regions of Valle de Mizque and Saipina by helping them apply new practices to improve quality, post-harvest handling and commercialization
