New Project Won—Ethiopia: Pastoralists Livelihood Initiative: Livestock Marketing Program
ACDI/VOCA has won a one-year extension with additional USAID funding of almost $500,000 under the Pastoralist Livelihoods Initiative-Livestock Marketing (PLI-LM) project. Since 2005, ACDI/VOCA has constructed 25 livestock markets in pastoralist areas of Ethiopia for PLI-LM. Many of these markets have stimulated increased business activity—both in terms of livestock trade (attracting higher volumes of animals and greater numbers of traders) and in terms of supporting markets in the adjacent areas.
The one-year extension will ensure that the markets will have a more lasting and beneficial effect on pastoralists by providing additional activities support in market management and maintenance, animal health services, and business and savings promotion.
