New Project Won–East Timor: Strengthening Property Rights

ACDI/VOCA, under a subcontract with Associates in Rural Development (ARD), has been awarded a five-year program to strengthen property rights in East Timor. Conflicts over property rights and land tenure have been a major cause of civil unrest in East Timor in recent years, and this project will work to support the government in resolving the problem. ACDI/VOCA will implement public awareness and conflict mitigation activities.

ACDI/VOCA has been working in East Timor for the past three years on the USAID-funded NGO Sector Strengthening project. Its local partner, Belun, a Timorese intermediary service organization, will have a key role in the new project, building on its related initiatives over the last few years.

This project was awarded under the Prosperity, Livelihoods and Conserving Ecosystems (PLACE) IQC contracting mechanism, under which ACDI/VOCA is a member of the ARD consortium. To read more about the PLACE IQC, please click here.
