ACDI/VOCA Conducts Health Campaign for Children in Tawi Tawi

ACDI/VOCA’s Sustainable Health Improvements through Empowerment and Local Development (SHIELD) project in the Philippines helped organize a two-day deworming health campaign for 3,850 primary school students in Sibutu, Tawi Tawi. The campaign was initiated by the local health bureau with collaboration from local governmental departments in the municipality. Local health committee members, municipal councilors and officials attended.

ACDI/VOCA supported the health campaign by facilitating the distribution of 2,000 mebendazole tablets and 500 albendazole tablets from local pharmacies to augment the available stocks. ACDI/VOCA also provided technical assistance to health workers and school nurses. Locally based nurses and teachers explained to the children the rationale for and benefits of the initiative.
