Vice President for New Business Development Scott Reid has 26 years of business development experience in the public and private sectors in the U.S., Canada and transitional economies in the Middle East, Africa, southeastern Europe and Central Asia. As a senior corporate manager and consultant, he has focused on promoting international trade, foreign direct investment, private sector competitiveness and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) development and infrastructure expansion in the emerging markets of post-conflict countries. He has experience as headquarters technical director and field team leader guiding SME, business center and private sector development projects in Iraq, Serbia and Afghanistan. He has also served as a corporate manager in the United States and in the developing world, including 15 years in Africa, and as an international market advisor to prominent multinational corporations such as Boeing, Motorola and Nortel Networks. Mr. Reid has served as a technical advisor promoting capital projects and financing to several Canadian Ministers of International Trade, as an officer in the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service and as a commerce officer in the Canada Ministry of Industry, Trade and Commerce. He was previously the head of investment promotion of the Swaziland Industrial Development Company. He has hands-on expertise in the promotion of direct foreign investment, the privatization of state-owned enterprises, the development of policies and institutions to support SMEs, linkage building between small enterprises and larger corporations and the creation of economic empowerment vehicles for historically disadvantaged people. He earned his master’s in economics and his bachelor’s in economics and political science at Carleton University, in Ottawa, Canada.
