Community Health

A Critical Factor in Economic Development and Stability

ACDI/VOCA is changing the way that communities and the business sector work together for health improvement and societal stability. ACDI/VOCA’s project portfolio reflects a holistic and integrated approach to economic development in which non-traditional economic development activities aimed at ensuring sustainable populations, including a healthy workforce, are common.

Our approaches and methodologies are customized to specific country environments. They build on local strengths and cultural values while adhering to the principle that local participation is essential for long-term sustainability. ACDI/VOCA emphasizes practical, market-oriented methodologies implemented through an appropriate mix of activities.

ACDI/VOCA’s community-based health experience includes HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and feeding programs; education in nutrition and basic hygiene, family planning and reproductive health, maternal and child health, and tuberculosis control; construction or renovation of health facilities and provision of health equipment; health care finance training; and civil-military cooperation.
